Clinic Assistant
Part Time, $18-21/hr DOE

The Portland Animal Welfare Team is an nonprofit organization providing veterinary care to the pets of people in our community experiencing houselessness or extreme poverty. We provide care for over 1,000 Portland families per year through volunteer powered clinics at our NE Portland space, as well as through offsite clinics at resources centers in town. PAW Team offers the chance to use your skills in a truly meaningful way: to work with a small team and wonderful volunteers dedicated to helping the people and animals who need us the most.

We are seeking a passionate, energetic individual to work closely with the Medical Director and Clinic Manager, assisting in daily clinic operations including patient care, client communication and pharmacy duties. 

Our ideal candidate works well in a close knit team environment, is comfortable with people from all walks of life, treats every patient and client with compassion and respect, has great communication skills and is organized, detail oriented and efficient. Managing a hectic daily flow and handling stressful situations in a calm and positive manner is a must.

This is a part-time position (20-30hrs per week) with a potential to become full-time in the future. Primary operating hours are Tues/Wed/Thurs 10am to 3pm and one weekend day per month.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Basic computer skills to use/learn programs such as Microsoft Office suite, practice management software & electronic medical records

  • 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician or assistant role

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and electronic) with the team, volunteers, and with pet owners and the ability to maintain compassion and respect during potentially heightened interactions. 

  • Safe animal restraint techniques for exams or procedures

  • Ability to prepare and read in house labs (ear cytology, urinalysis, PCV/TP)

  • Fine motor skills acceptable for venipuncture and administration of medications, vaccines, and treatments 

  • Ability to occasionally: stand for prolonged periods, kneel, stoop, bend, reach and lift up to 30 lbs unassisted

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $18-21/hour to start, depending on experience 

  • 40 hours PTO, 8 paid holidays, and 8 hours of paid community time towards volunteerism, civil disobedience, or DEI educational opportunities. Health benefits at 30 hours after 30 days

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must possess a minimum of 1 year clinical experience as a veterinary technician or assistant. We are not able to consider candidates without the minimum required experience at this time.
